ShoNagi // Confession

It had happened shortly after the UA students moved into Height’s Alliance. Despite the room competition the girls in 1-A had put together to boost morale amongst their classmates after the training camp incident, there was still a desire to further bring their class back together.

Momo and Iida had decided to organize a class trip to the local amusement park. Everyone went along with it (even Bakugo, although with convincing from Kirishima). Aizawa-sensei allowed them permission to take one of the school buses to get there. Once there, Class 1-A split off into various groups, agreeing to meet up for lunch later.

Todoroki, Midoriya, and Iida went along with the girls, going on various rides. Eventually Mina had pointed out a print club booth. All seven of the girls crowded into one first to take pictures, followed by Ochako pulling Iida and Midoriya in to take pictures with them. Then Mina and Toru pushed Nagisa and Todoroki into one.

It was no secret amongst the girls that Nagisa liked Todoroki at this point. In fact, her feelings were the only one they had figured out; Ochako’s feelings were still up for debate. Nagisa, being flustered, tried to protest it, but her friends just insisted she roll with it. Of course, Todoroki wasn’t sure what to do, so Nagisa pointed out that the booth would give prompt ideas and they could just follow those. With a nod from the boy, Nagisa started up the session. Various cutesy poses were given and followed, until the last one suggested a kiss on the cheek. Nagisa’s face turned bright red, but she only hesitated for a split second before kissing a surprised Todoroki on the cheek. As they exited the booth, Nagisa too embarrassed to even look at Todoroki, Mina and Toru started to work on decorating their photos for them. Various squeals and comments came from behind the curtain, but Nagisa didn’t register any of it. Heck she barely registered being handed a printed copy once they were done.

The rest of the day continued in a blur for Nagisa; all she could focus on was wondering what Todoroki thought. Would this ruin their friendship that had developed ever since he began opening up to the rest class after the sports festival?

A few days passed, and while Nagisa didn’t exactly avoid Todoroki, she was certainly quieter around him. Eventually, Todoroki pulled her aside in the corridor to talk.

“Mizushima, did I do something wrong?” he asked carefully. This took Nagisa by surprise.

“N-No, of course not! What would give you that idea, Todoroki-kun?” she replied with a small smile as she waved a hand in front of her face.

“It’s just… you’ve been acting odd since the amusement park trip,” Todoroki explained, rubbing the back of his neck. “You’ve been quieter around me, so I was wondering if I did something to upset you.” Nagisa chewed on her bottom lip as she started rubbing her thumb against the palm of her opposite hand, a trait Todoroki had noticed she did whenever she was nervous or unsure.

“No, you didn’t do anything to upset me, Todoroki-kun,” she replied, glancing to the side. “Well, ok. There was the whole thing of not telling me about your plan to rescue Bakugo, but we already had that conversation,” she added with a small chuckle. “It’s more like… I’ve been worried that I might’ve accidentally upset you…”

“Upset me?” Todoroki looked at her confused. What did she mean? He couldn’t recall any sort of incident where she could have upset him.

“In the print club booth, when I ended up kissing you on the cheek,” Nagisa started to explain, still not looking at him. “I’m sorry, I panicked when it was suggested and ended up rolling with it,” her words coming out in a bit of a rush. “It’s just that, I’ve liked you as more than a friend for a while now, but I’ve been afraid to say anything because I didn’t want it to ruin our friendship if it turned out you didn’t feel the same way. But Mina-chan and the others had already figured out I liked you, so that’s probably why they insisted we take the pictures together. I’m sorry, I shouldn’t ha—”

She was cut short by Todoroki gently lifting her chin with a finger and placing a kiss on her lips. Her eyes widened in surprise before they fluttered shut and kissed him back. They parted shortly after, with Todoroki smiling gently at her.

“I feel the same way, Mizushima. About you, that is,” he said. Nagisa was still at a loss for words, her face a bright pink as she stared at the boy in confusion. “I think I figured out that what I felt for you was more than friendship after finding out how badly dehydrated you ended up after the villain’s attack,” he explained, rubbing the back of his neck. “I wished I could have protected you somehow, but I couldn’t. I realized, I wanted to be by your side to protect you in the future.” He lightly scratched at his cheek with his finger. “However, not only did I figure you only saw me as just a friend, but I don’t want to possibly end up treating you like my old man treated my mother.”

At that, Nagisa gave a small laugh. “Todoroki-kun, how many times have Midoriya-kun and I told you that you don’t have to worry about becoming like your dad?” she asked with a smile as she took his hand in hers. “But I guess we’re both the silly ones if we thought the other would only want to stay as friends, huh?” she added with a smile. Todoroki blinked before returning the smile.

“I guess so,” he said, leaning in to kiss her forehead. Nagisa’s cheeks tinged pink again.

“I-Is it ok if I call you by your first name, then?” she mumbled. Another blink from the boy before he gave a soft smile.

“Only if I can do the same.” Nagisa smiled brightly in response.

“Of course, Shoto-kun.”

“Thank you, Nagisa.”
